Fact or Fiction?
This week’s set was suggested by
breath_of_life. Label the following fact of fiction and state why you did.
1. Love at First Sight: Fact or Fiction? Fiction. For me so far, it hasn’t been love at first sight. Not to say that it can’t happen, just that it hasn’t happened to me yet. I’m not giving up though. I would love to fall in love at first sight.
2. Fortune Telling: Fact or Fiction? Fiction. Most of the time, fortunes are very generic, i.e. “You will go on a big trip.” Not to say that there aren’t people who can really tell a fortune, but very few are specific enough to make it believable.
3. Other Life: Fact or Fiction? Fact. If there is life on Earth, why can’t there be life on other planets?
4. Afterlife: Fact or Fiction? I`m torn on this. While I want to believe that there is an afterlife, I think that when we die, we just die. However, I also believe in ghosts, so I`m not sure how both of these work together.
5. Bigfoot: Fact or Fiction? Fiction. He has to be dead by now.
A few week ago, I was bored. I was hungry. What I wanted most of all was a cupcake. Unfortunately, it was a Monday. Which meant that the Cupcake Shoppe Bakery was closed. In a fit on panic, I raced over to Cafe Carolina & Bakery. I had never been there before. Unless I have a severe cupcake craving, I doubt I will go back.
Don’t get me wrong, the cupcake was delicious. There were two flavors. Chocolate & Vanilla. I chose chocolate. The cake was moist, the icing creamy and just sweet enough, but not overwhelming sweet. However, the problem was with my Chai Latte. I love Chai. But this, my friends, did not taste anything like Chai. It tasted exactly like hot milk. Now, I will give them the benefit of the doubt, and say that maybe they forgot to include something. But at the money it cost me, it wasn’t worth just throwing it in the trash.
Maybe I will go back. Try some food. Eat another cupcake. But no coffee will grace my body from there.

YahooNews recently posted this article, “Philly school effort cuts weight gain,” basically talking about this experiment in which schools educated students and parents on nutrition, limited snacks, eliminated candy and replaced soda with fruit juices. The result was that the amount of kids who got fat during the experiment was half the number of those who got fat in schools that weren’t part of this effort.
Wow. Eliminating junk food and educating people reduces obesity. Who knew.
This is where it needs to start. In the school. Educating both parents and kids about healthier choices to make. Getting them active, not eliminating recess and P.E.
I was one of those fortunate kids. My mom worked nights, so I always had a healthy lunch ready for me when I left for school, from Kindergarten until I reached high school. Then I just didn’t each lunch. But I was always active. I did band, volleyball and soccer. Even though I did watch an ungodly amount of television (5+ hours a day), I read books, I played outside.
Hopefully more schools will get on the ball and initiate this program within their systems.
