The Southern Belle Blogs

This week, I was involved in the 20Somethings Blog Swap (see sidebar for link). Here is my swap partner’s blog! Enjoy and don’t forget to check out mine at her website!

Hello, everyone! I’m Andhari and I blog at Insomniac Lolita. Emily told me to do a little bit of introduction, so here are some basic things you have to know : I reside probably a continent away from you in a big beautiful city of Jakarta, Indonesia. I’m a law student / musician / rapper / part time model/blogger ( I know, the titles are a lot! ), and my interests include music, fashion, movies, books, bad TV and city life.

This is my first time doing a blog swap post so as you can tell, it’s pretty nerve wrecking while at the same time exciting to figure out what to write. However, I notice Emily has summer 2009 movies in the right side bar, and a lot of bloggers I read write a lot about summer these days so I’m gonna try to write my take on summer here. It’s pretty much a big deal because…

I’m not really into summer.

Yes, you read that right. I’m not really into summer. Sure it’s nice to have a week or so beach vacation and hanging out under the sun but more than that? I really can’t show further appreciation. I get why some of you like it so much, you might live in a country with 4 seasons and it may usually be cold. But living around the equator over here is usually sunny and hot, all year long. We either have sun or rain , 80 or so degrees temperature daily and when it drops lower than 77 degrees, people bring out their warm outerwear to play. No kidding. I prefer the rain and the cloudy sky when I can go out without being sweaty and grumpy, not to mention that fall wardrobes compliment me better than summer ones. Dark colors, scarves, flirty buttoned cardigans, parkas, stylish jackets, and booties with towering heels? BRING IT ON.

I think I watch too much fall – winter runway shows in Fashion TV.

But I guess there are still a few things that I’m fond of about summer so don’t call me a hot weather grinch yet and check out what I like about it :

  • Going to the beach ( or pools )

Yes, apparently the summer grinch loves playing in the ocean and swimming in the pool. It’s like I transform into my 5 years old again. I love beach activities : scuba, snorkeling,
swimming, jet ski riding, and even just to simply hanging around soaking my toes in the sand while sipping on fruity cocktails. Now unlike most of you though, I don’t like getting a
tan. Being born as a South East Asian, I have this semi tanned skin and I’ll look ridiculous with darker skin. It doesn’t make me hot, it makes me look dirty. Haha. Another thing I
love in the ocean : SAILING and BOATING. I haven’t done these in a while but they’re certainly my favorite. Feeling the waves and the wind blows your hair, I feel like booking the
next flight to Bali.

  • Summer cocktails

Now lucky me because summer cocktails can be enjoyed all year here due to the constant sunny weather. What girl wouldn’t cave in to the exotic taste of Pinacolada, Sangria,
Mojito, Daiquries, and Margarita? My personal favorite of summer cocktail would be peach bellini. It’s a concoction made with champagne, peach schnapps and some slices of frozen
peaches. I think I could drink them by gallons if it’s appropriate. They make lunches, dinners, and parties better.

  • Pretty sun dresses

Although I like fall clothes better, I can’t say I dislike pretty bright colored summer dresses. They’re so flirty and fun to wear, especially the ones with cute motives. I can’t say the
same thing about summer booty shorts and overly mini skirts, not that they’re not cute. They just remind me on how I should not wear them because I’m pretty self conscious about
my thighs. It’s a girl thing!

  • Summer parties!!!

I always love summer parties, somehow people are more up to partying in this hot weather. And there are a lot more of outdoor parties by the beach / pool, even the ones in open
fields with bonfires and roof tops. They’re always fun with people mingling, dancing, and sipping drinks with clear night sky above filled with stars and full moon. The DJ’s always pick
good, upbeat and cheerful music too. Now don’t tell me you don’t have a particular summer playlist since I have a bunch of those, a lot of hiphop with a touch of reggaeton and
even Hed Kandi type of house music. “PARRRTTTTTYYYYY!” ( say it a la retarded frat boy ).

  • Summer barbecues and ice creams

Now who doesn’t love those? I love going to people’s house and enjoy quality time over delicious grilled items, whether it’s meat, fish or vegetables. It makes my tummy purrs hearing
all those sizzling sound. As for ice cream, don’t you just love going out for a big bowl of ice cream preferably with cut up brownies and cookie dough in it? Maybe add some chocolate
syrup on top to make it even more sinfully delicious? I also love getting myself a cup of green tea frozen yogurt topped with chocolate chip and mochi. Yum!

  • Loose schedules : Stay up late, wake up even later!

With all these days off, you have every right to wake up past noon. Lounge around like a lazy bum in front of the tv and nap again whenever you want. You’re only up to play and
party anyway, right? Just in case any of you have work or classes around the summer though, I feel you. I take summer semester myself *weep*.

  • Hot Topless surfers…Hot topless men in general doing sports and outdoorsy activities!

Nuff said, I guess you know what I mean? *wink wink*

What do you like most about summer?

ps. Don’t forget to check Emily’s post on my place!

With most of 2009 gone, I`ve decided to take a close look at my life. While I have made some mistakes, I`m going to take the rest of this year to really focus on myself and to discover what I want in life. This especially is in regards to a career. My mind changes constantly, so I need to find some way to make myself happy (even though I love my current job, I`m barely squeaking by money wise).

My Resolutions for the Rest of 2009 are:

  • Buy a new computer (3 of my keys are missing on my 2005 Dell, and I`m met with the Blue Screen of Death on a monthly basis now. I`m leaning towards a macbook, almost 100%)
  • Drink more tea (I want to virtually eliminate soda from my diet. I`m going to buy matcha poweder soon, in addition to the tea leaves I have now)
  • Eat healthier (I`m going to give soy milk another try, and also try to have a more flexiterian diet)
  • Get my kitty fixed
  • Get out of this college apartment, into a place I can call my own
  • Watch a great movie
  • Read a book that will change my life
  • Work on being a better person, and not focus so much on the faults of others
  • Save money (I try, but every month, something comes up that forces me to drain my account. Hopefully by not eating out as much and cooking more at home, I`ll be able to)

I think all of these are very obtainable goals. Life is short, and I want to spend every second of it doing something that will make me happy. I want to get rid of everything that irritates me, everything that stresses me out. I think that this list is a good start. I`ve had a ache in my shoulder for almost 4 months now that just won’t go away, and I know that it is a result of stress. Hopefully by focusing more on my mental and physical health, I`ll feel better.

Do you have any goals for the rest of this year?
