I went to the NC State fair a few days ago. This is one of the few events that I really look forward to attending every year! While I did see any deep fried butter at our fair, there were fried foods galore (my friend even commented that this year, there seemed to be more food stands than rides). I tried so much delicious things! Fried ho-ho, fried Oreo (my goal for this year), fried Reese’s (weird thing – I had trouble deciding between the Oreo and the Reese’s. I went with the Oreo, but one of my oreos was a Reese’s!), Muscadine slushy, Blueberry Lemonade slushy (amazing!!), ham biscuit. I got a candy apple before I left, as I always do, and I went home and collapsed into a sugar coma. I felt so sick!

Since ride tickets are so expensive, we only rode one ride (5 tickets, roughly $5  a person). My friend did the turkey shoot, which I decided not to do this year, and the rest of the time, we really just walked around and played games. I won a stuffed pumpkin on the only game that I`m any good at – the balloon pop!

I`m always sad when the fair is over, but this year, I`m sort of relieved to have my visit done with, I spent way too much money. But since it comes once a year, it was worth it!

Even though my birthday was a few days ago, I can still bask in the afterglow, right? This year’s birthday was 100x better than last year’s (my 21st). I just felt so much love from everyone this year.

My mom drove 2 1/2 hours down, and just seeing her made me so happy, that it kind of cemented my urge to move back home. But that’s another post.

We ate at Golden Corall, because I had been craving their rolls with honey butter for weeks! We even brought in my presents so I could open them. I had a card from my mom, my mom’s boyfriend, and my grandma. My mom gave me a spice rack and Jessica Seinfeld’s “Deceptively Delicious.”

Then my mom and I rode around, visiting Halloween shops, boot stores (I`m looking for a great pair of cowboy boots), and various malls. It was a great time! I was sad to see her leave. She also bought me a few more things from a couple of stores. We even made a worker at American Eagle take a dress off of a mannequin because it was the only size that fit me!

When I got home, I saw these outside of my door:

I was tickled to death that my roommate had gone out of her way to get my balloons!! It made my day so much better!

I still had some time before I was meeting my friend for sushi, so I took a picture of the cupcakes my mom made me, as well as everything that was bought during the day (barrette devil horns, feathered eye lashes, AE dress, AE belt, Zombie drink label)…

All in all, it was a great day, even with the rainy weather!

Sometimes, when the mid-week slump hits, we need a little extra push to get us through the rest of the week.

Gratefulness is the key to a happy life that we hold in our hands, because if we are not grateful, then no matter how much we have we will not be happy — because we will always want to have something else or something more.

We all have things that we take for granted, whether it’s family, friends, technology, or even that we have the ability to try to cook, or a roof over our hears. On this rainy Wednesday morning, when I want nothing more than to curl back until my covers, I thought I would take a moment to reflect on what I am grateful for this morning.

I Am Grateful:

  • For a mom who is willing to drive 2 1/2 hours every year just so she won’t miss my birthday
  • That my dad remembered to actually call me on my birthday, even if it was 10:00 at night
  • That I do have a job, even if it’s one I`m not thrilled about doing anymore
  • That I am healthy (more and more people I know are catching H1N1)
  • That my mom says that I can go home at anytime

What are you grateful for?
