Friday is payday. So Friday evening, I went grocery shopping. I pulled my $60 out of my bank account ($20 each for gas, food and entertainment) and headed to Harris Teeter – no list or any coupons in hand.
All of this cost me $20.83, which I was impressed that I got so close to my budget, I even got ice cream to spoil myself (yes, that could have bought me more actual food, but I tend to eat ice cream as an entire meal anyway). Savings: $2.51 (I think, I misplaced my receipt) . I tried to buy items that were only on sale, but I didn’t do that well. I feel that I seriously need to do some coupon shopping and browse through the sale paper before I go shopping this Friday.
For supper that night, I used some of the meatballs (the rest will be later cooked in the crock-pot with BBQ sauce), leftover Ragu spaghetti sauce, spaghetti noodles that I found in the back of my cabinet, and leftover rolls from Easter that were starting to stale (under the broiler with some butter and I would never have guessed). This corresponded to leftovers on Sunday as well.
Saturday, I got up and went to the Farmer’s Market for the first time this year. I forgot my camera at home, which is such a shame, but I think I will try to head out there at least twice a month, so expect more pictures than one from a grainy camera phone. If I hadn’t had bread at home, I think I would have purchased mine from there (though I want to try to make bread sometime soon). Here is all of what I got and the pricing breakdown:
$2.50 – Bunch of Asparagus
$0.75 – 3 Turnips (I wanted to cook something that I hadn’t cooked before)
$4.00 – Pint of strawberries
$5.63 – Locally raised pork chops (from Wells Pork and Beef in Burgaw, NC)
With what was left over, I purchased a cupcake and a soda when I went downtown with my roommate later that day (after the NCSU Red/White Game). So now, I have food to last me the week, no entertainment/eating money, but money for gas. I moved my rent money to my savings account and will pay credit card money today.
It was slightly disappointing to me, when I got gas this morning, that at $2.79 a gallon, $20 barely gave me half a tank of gas! Hopefully that is enough to last the week!
Lunch: Close Talker salad from Moe’s Southwest Grill (W/ grilled chicken, lettuce, pinto beans, shredded cheese, tomatoes, and salsa. Served in the fried bowl, for some reason, but I didn’t eat it). No pictures because I was trying to hurry along at work (busy day)
Snack: 1 cup dark chocolate covered peanuts (yum)
Dinner: I picked the boy up and we went to the grocery store. He had a horrible day yesterday and could use some quality time with good ole me. So he ended up cooking me dinner and rubbing my back! For dessert, we had Ben & Jerry’s ice cream (Chunky Monkey for him, the new Milk & Cookies for me. I had about 1/2 a cup but couldn’t help but to try it. It’s not bad, but above all, my favorite ice cream is still plain old Food Lion chocolate). For dinner, he fixed Southwestern hash-browns (with a little bit of cheddar cheese) and eggs (with some cheese). My eggs were plain, his had peppers and onions. I had a Dr. Pepper, but only took a few sips.
His eggs were great this time! I say this time because a long time ago, I had asked the boy to cook me breakfast one morning. It was after he had been drinking a bit the night before, so as he was cooking, he had this bright idea to add BEER to the eggs. While he loved them, I thought they were the most disgusting thing ever.
It is WAY past my bedtime, so goodnight!!!
Back Status: Fading some, still there. Thanks for all of the well wishes! Haven’t exercised, but I think that staying busy kept my mind off of it.
Yesterday: mini Cliff bar (chocolate chip) for breakfast, apple with peanut butter for snack, stuffed pepper guts for dinner (I’m not a fan of the outside), recipe will be available when I eat the leftovers. I started to eat a blueberry crisp that I made, but about 2 bites in, it didn’t taste good (I ran out of sugar), so I tossed it. Which is great, usually, I would just drudge through it just for a taste of something sweet.
Today:
Breakfast: Overnight Oatmeal – The Elvis (banana, almond butter, honey for sweetness, chocolate protein powder)
Lunch: Chocolate cupcake from Cafe Carolina and Bakery, 1/2 diet coke + 1/2 coke mix (felt a headache coming on)
Dinner: Vegetable stir fry with brown rice (Using my super secret stir fry sauce)
Snack: 2 cups of milk (whole)
I never thought I would ever wear a pair of jeggings until I tried on these MOTO jeggings this morning at work (Denim and Lace). I liked them, but I never knew how they would look on my body, since I’m so short. But of course, as soon as I tried them on with those boots, I fell absolutely in love. The jeggings were $54 and the boots were regular $145 (Nicole Shy Boot in Tuscany), but ended up being 50% off. I felt so good in this outfit, which shows that sometimes, all you need is a good clothes to make you feel confident, no matter what you look like.
I also found out about this hot yoga studio in Raleigh that I’m pretty excited to check out. I never thought Raleigh could have something like that. I wanted to check it out next Monday, but forgot about the Eric Clapton concert! So I might do it this week, it should make my back feel good!
